About Shepherd Shield

Built on Real Experience.
Driven by Purpose.

Protect your team. Be prepared before it matters.

Shepherd Shield Consulting exists because the organizations that matter most — churches, daycares, nonprofits, schools — are too often the least prepared. That changes here.

The Story

Why Shepherd Shield Exists

My name is Dan Barker. I spent over a decade in law enforcement, including 8 years on a specialized tactical team, responding to the worst situations imaginable. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when organizations are unprepared — and what’s possible when they’re not.

Shepherd Shield Consulting was born out of something I kept seeing: churches, daycares, and community organizations — places full of people who matter deeply — operating as soft targets in an increasingly uneasy world. Not because they didn’t care, but because nobody had ever walked them through what they were missing.

I started this business to change that. To bring the same level of safety expertise that corporations and government agencies take for granted into the organizations that need it most — delivered without the intimidation, the jargon, or the unnecessary complexity.

“Emergencies don’t come with a warning. My job is to make sure that when one happens, your team is the most prepared people in the room.”

Today I also serve as the Director of Security & Health for a multi-campus organization with over 4,000 weekly attendees — building safety systems from the ground up every day. Shepherd Shield is an extension of that work, available to any organization ready to take preparedness seriously.

The Mission

Protecting the Places That Matter Most

The organizations I serve aren’t Fortune 500 companies with dedicated security budgets. They’re churches, daycares, schools, and nonprofits — places built around community, trust, and serving people. They’re also, far too often, the most vulnerable.

Shepherd Shield exists to close that gap. Not with fear-based messaging or unnecessary complexity — but with calm, professional expertise delivered in a way that actually empowers the people on the ground to respond when it counts.

Whether you need CPR training for your volunteers, a professional assessment of your facility, or a full emergency response plan built from scratch — the goal is always the same: leave your organization more prepared than we found it.

“Most people I work with tell me they had no idea how many gaps they had. That’s not a failure — it’s exactly why this work matters.”
